‘The X Files’ 2015 News: David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson Return in ‘The X-Files’ Event Series on Fox

“The X-Files” ended after a nine-season run on Fox, but after talks about a new TV installment, the sci-fi hit is coming back as a six-episode event series, reports Deadline.

Original “The X-Files” stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Production on the series is scheduled to start this summer. The series creators are not revealing the plot. It is also unknown if famous X-Files alumni, such as former executive producers Frank Spotnitz, Vince Gilligan and Howard Gordon, will be involved.

The romantic tension between Scully and Mulder was as intriguing for fans as were their paranormal investigations. Fans may remember in the final scene of “Existence” when Mulder visited Scully and the newly born baby William. The two FBI agents had vague dialogue before sharing a kiss that solidified the fact they are in love. Fans can look forward to more tender Scully-and-Mulder moments in the new series.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said series creator and executive producer Chris Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

While it has been less than 13 years since Mulder and Scully tackled strange phenomena, the TV series led to two X-Files movies, the second of which, “The X-Files: I Want To Believe,” was released in 2008.

In the TV show “The X-Files,” FBI special agents Scully and Mulder investigated unexplained cases known as “X-Files” which involved paranormal phenomena. The show was a huge hit when it debuted in 1993. It became a pop culture phenomena and gained a global audience. “The X-Files” was one of the longest running sci-fi series on TV. The show won an impressive 16 Emmys during its run.

Carter, 20th Century Fox TV and Fox had talked about starting “The X-Files” event series over the course of a year. It took some time to solve logistical issues and ensure the key X-Files actors were available for the project.

Meanwhile, there has also been a fan campaign to add a third installment to the X Files movie franchise.
